Why a girl shaves part of her head

August 17, 2012

A couple of people have asked about it and others claim to be curious for the story. Well, let me be honest, I don't know if I'll live up to any expectations. There is one simple reason, followed by a little push to get it done.

1. My hair has always looked fairly simple. Just long and straight and some bangs from time to time. But it was time for something else. As I already implied, I've always had an itch to do something different with my hair. A couple of years ago, I had dreads. (No, they're not nasty.) And I actually kind of loved them but after a year, I noticed that I got some skinproblems, not going to lie about them. So me and my grandma combed them out which took us about three weeks total. I went to back to a few years of 'boring' hair. Don't get me wrong, I like how my hair looked, I don't think a normal colour of length is boring at all but I was just sick of it after about 14 years. So yes, I think this is pretty and just awesome. I honestly thought I would regret it but I haven't regretted it for a day or even one minute.

2. After I decided to do this, I hesitated for a long time. Untill I thought of one of my lifegoals. I've always wanted to donate my hair to make wigs out of it. If my hair had been longer, I would've probably chopped it all off but I have to be honest, I'm not so brave as many women who lost their hair are. Encouraged by the donating part, I did it the same week I requested an envelope to send my hair. I realise it's only a bit and it won't be good for more than 1/12 of a wig but I truly believe that little things make the difference. And I hope that someone enjoys my hair while I enjoy it chopped off.

I want to emphasize on my admiration for strong women who get through horrible stuff. I can't believe what some people have to go through and I can't stand the thought of someone losing the battle. But let's focus on the fight they've put up and let's be encouraged by this fierce strength. Because I sure hope I'll be as strong as them one day.

  1. That's very noble of you to donate it. My best friend had razor-ed off a part of her hair as well. She did it merely because one of her friends had done it as well, so there wasn't any true reason for it. I'm not brave enough to do it & I have no real reason to, but it actually looks good on you :)

  3. Very, very cool! I have always dyed my hair all colors of the rainbow (and most recently, actually did rainbow hair) so whenever I think to change it up with hair, I always think color. But this is so unique and generous. Love it! It really speaks to your personality and character in a very good way. =)
