A naked cat's tale

September 18, 2012

Since my cat is actually a big part of my life (yes, I am one of those crazy catlady's), I thought I would highlight her a little bit here. So I give you: the story of how we got a naked cat. (Actually I should've called it Pet Tales or something like that because I'm going to share a lot more.)

All my life, I've always been crazy about animals. When I see one, wether it's a cat, a dog, a mouse or a peacock, I try to come near and even pet it. Ofcourse, when the owner or the animal isn't comfortable with it, I wouldn't do that, ever. But most of them actually like it. So ofcourse, I always wanted a little pet for myself and I have to say, I've kind of always had one around. When I was really little, my grandmother's cat had babies all the time and we adopted two of them. One of those cats was actually pretty much immediately adopted by my other grandparents and the other one was my best friend for years. I could literally do everything with him and he would purr and give me kisses. Then on a really sad day after more then a decade, he must've eaten something poisonous and he died of it. I can't tell you how heartbroken I was.

She truly is the sweetest.
A few years passed untill I longed for a companion again. I started to ask my parents for a dog but they wouldn't give in. Then when I was in my last year of primary school, they came to pick me up one day and they had a dog with them! I didn't know how to react when they told me it was mine, it was crazy. I was absolutely head over heels with him. But two years passed and one day I came home and he was gone. Apparantly my parents brought him to an older lady because they decided that we didn't have the time that a dog deserves. I now absolutely agree because I was going to school and my parents worked everyday so our dog was alone five days a week. But I was so angry at them for a long time! I am not ashamed to say this though, because I know now that it was the right thing to do. I loved him so much and I only wanted him to get the happy life he deserved, with lots of attention.

Then fast forward to about three years ago. My heart was so empty and I really wanted a best friend again. I asked for a dog again but I knew in my heart it was not the right fit at the time and so did my parents. My dad agreed with a cat because he really wanted a pet again as well. My mother though had some practical issues with the hair so again, we kind of settled with nothing. But then me and my dad were watching LA ink and we saw Kat Von D's naked cat and we looked at each other and my dad was the one to say it: "that's what we're going to get". So I immediately started looking online for cateries and we decided to just go look somewhere. I have to admit, I was a little weirded out at first. The guy we went to had probably like 14 cats and it was really overwhelming but so cool to see so many of these funky creatures that we had never seen before in real life. But once we got in and we sat down, they were all coming to us, purring and fighting for our attention,we were in love. So that's when we officially decided to get our little baby. The pictures where she's really little were taken at that couple's home.

I've kind of went a little overboard with this story but I really wanted to document how it truly all was. I still miss my first cat, especially when Laila reminds me of him sometimes and I still have a special place in my heart for my dog. I don't think I'll ever forget one pet I had, not even my cavia which I didn't even talk about. Hell, I won't even forget the pets my boyfriend had/has. Also, I hope you'll enjoy these pictures. I know lots of people think sphynxes are creepy but trust me, once you get to pet one, you're lost!

PS: I think I'll do posts like this from time to time, just talking about something without editing, without lies and without omitting something.

  2. I met a bunch of newborn sphynx kittens and they were adorable. I love my cat of seven years recently and am now going through heartache with his brother so I understand. I'm glad you've adopted again. <3

  4. Friends of ours have a "naked cat". She is kind of a princess, but she loves to cuddle. I think it's because she's always so cold and could use the extra body heat! She has her own little heating pad on her chair and everything!

Sometimes I think it would be fun to have an animal in the house, but my husband is allergic to most things with fur, hair, fuzz, etc. Perhaps a hairless cat is just what we need! HA!

    1. Yes you should get a hairless cat then haha! And well, they tend to eat more to get their bodyheat up but they certainly like to cuddle and lay alongside you, like everywhere. At night, she'll crawl with me under the blankets and she refuses to lie anywhere that isn't between my legs... uhm yeah. :D xo

  10. those cats do creep me out look-wise a bit but at the same time it is interesting to see how all would prob look w/ no fur AND your mom having allergies is a great reason to get one. i remember the way i got my childhood cat and was so happy as well so i can def relate & i'm glad now you can see it was for the best for you dog to get more attention : )
