What to read

October 14, 2012

I've always been a reader. When I was little, I went to the library every week and I read two books. After some time, I had read almost everything that seemed interesting in the teen section. This kind of sounds crazy to me right now because I can only remember a few books now. Also, when I started high school, I lost my 'passion'. And it rejuvenated when I started reading Twilight (how silly that may sound). I was sceptical at first, but I really liked it, even though it's a bit childish.

Teen fantasy is still my favorite actually. I read 'grown-up' books as well and I do enjoy them, but there's just something about series like the Hunger Games. (And I'm not ashamed of it, I think nobody should.) So I thought I could share some of my favorites. Over the past months, I really got into reading again and I would like to continue it. That's why I want to read at least one book each month. I'm out of reading material so if you have any recommendations, please share. Also, after typing out my list, I noticed that I almost only mentioned series. I guess they just stick out more in my head?

♥ Harry Potter: No explanation needed, obviously. I've always loved Harry Potter so much. When a new book was released, I had to have it within 12 hours and I would finish it the same day. I even made a paper about the differences between the English and French version of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in my last year of high school (and I got the second best mark for it). I'm still proud of it, haha.

♥ Twilight: I decided to read the first book after I had seen the movie and I thought it was actually kind of cool. So I read the following three. And the novel about Bree Tanner. I get why a lot of people think it's way to cheesy and childish and it is, but I can look past that. I can just read and drown in a story. And the movies are nothing compared to it. So forgive me!

♥ The Hunger Games: I'm not even sure what to say. I probably don't know of enough adjectives to describe my love for these books. I got sucked in so hard; I didn't stop reading for three days and I felt so freaking empty after finishing the last book, is this bad? I'm totally team Peeta by the way.

♥ Divergent series: It's not as good as the above but it was a nice, smooth read. And it's a real pageturner. Disclaimer: the last book ends with "and then the screaming began." So yeah, you'll want to kill the writer for not having another book ready.

♥ I am number four series: This is actually not something I would pick out for myself. But I got the book and when I read it, I was really amazed. It waaaaay better than the movie and I can recommend it to everyone. I'm not a fan of sciencefiction and alien stuff but this really surprised me and it reminded me to keep an open mind.

♥ The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime by Mark Haddon: If you're going to read something, read this. I don't want to say too much about it but it's an amazing book about an autistic boy.

♥ The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini: It's totally different from what I normally read but I thought it was a really good book. It's really serious but still so charming.

♥ Belgian books such as those from Hugo Claus and Dimitri Verhulst. I don't know if any of you are familiar with these names, I don't even know if they're easy to come by in a different language but I thought I'd just put them here, for those interested. They're both completely different but both brilliant.

This has become way longer than I intented and I didn't even share much, but well. What are some of your favorite books?

  4. Oh, I used to read all of the time. So, so frequently. I'm so sad that I no longer have time for it! I swear someday I'll make time for reading again.

My brother, Corbin, and I, used to read fantasy books all of the time. So much fun! Have you read these?
    - Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind - I wasn't as big a fan of the rest of the series... but this one was good!
    - The Golden Compass & series by Philip Pullman - classic series... so good! Now I want to read it again!
    - The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny - sadly he died before finishing the whole series... but seriously, he is such a good writer, it's worth it anyway. At least he wraps up the first part nicely.

I could go on forever. We should talk books!!

  5. I hate reading. BUT when I found Harry Potter I read all of them, so that was a big deal for me. Also, I love the Twilight books and the movies. Yes, it's gotten so cheesy due to it be crammed down our thoughts for years. BUT when it first came out it wasn't like that. You should look up the books called Kingdom Keepers. They are teen novels based on the Disney parks. I haven't read them but a friend did. If you love Disney I am sure you would love them.
